April 2022 newsletter
Hi there! I’m back with more news from the veterinary world. This time, it’s all about rabbit surgery!
A recent study aimed to compare intraoperative and short-term postoperative variables between laparoscopic ovariectomy (LapOVE) and open ovariectomy (OVE) in rabbits. The results showed that surgery time for LapOVE was twice that of OVE, and no evidence of a reduction in pain or recovery time was found for LapOVE.
Another study investigated relationships between endometrial adenocarcinoma and age at ovariohysterectomy or breed in rabbits. The results showed that the most commonly reported neoplastic and nonneoplastic lesions were endometrial adenocarcinoma and endometrial hyperplasia, respectively. They also reported that ovariohysterectomy in rabbits before 2 years of age is a key preventative measure to mitigate uterine disease, particularly endometrial adenocarcinoma.
Lastly, another study reported clinical, surgical, and pathological findings in rabbits with histologically confirmed appendicitis. The results showed that appendicitis should be considered as a differential diagnosis in rabbits presenting clinical signs such as decreased appetite, apparently painful abdomen, hyperthermia, hypocalcemia, or hypoglycemia.
On VETAHEAD related news, this month we launched of the 2nd edition of the e-books for our rabbit medicine and surgery course! 🎉🎉🎉 We have updates based on new studies that have have been published since we first launched the course.
Talk to you soon!
Sincerely,
Sincerely,
