October 2021 newsletter
Hi there! 👋 I’m bringing you some news from the veterinary world!
First, here’s a paper on the alternatives of treatment for adrenocortical disease in ferrets. It’s a bit older, but still very interesting. The results suggest that deslorelin is an effective and safe treatment that should be considered when surgery has significant risk. Always glad to have a less invasive option to help our patients, right?
Another interesting paper is this one, determining the importance of fasting bearded dragons before blood sampling for plasma uric acid evaluation. I know it’s not always possible to fast them before an exam, but it’s important to determine the time of their last meal before evaluating the results, as this study showed.
Lastly, here’s a brand new paper on endotracheal intubation in rabbits guided by V-Gel, a supraglottic airway device. As a big advocate of intubating rabbit patients (and all other non-traditional pets you may see), I highly recommend the read. It can be a new way for you to start getting the confidence to intubate your patients and provide the best care possible! 🐰
See you next month!
Sincerely,
Laila Proença
