Dr. Laila Proença® is an internationally recognized veterinarian, educator, speaker, and consultant with over 20 years of experience in zoological medicine (exotic animal medicine), professional education, leadership, and empowerment.
As the first South American Diplomate of the American College of Zoological Medicine (DACZM), Dr. Proença is known for her ability to translate complex scientific and professional concepts into clear, engaging, and practical insights. Her work spans veterinary medicine, ZooMed (exotic animal medicine), education, leadership development, entrepreneurship, diversity, feminism, personal branding, and professional growth.
Dr. Proença provides these services to clients and organizations in professional, academic, and clinical settings.
Dr. Laila Proença® is our founder and CEO. She is the first South American to become a Diplomate of the American College of Zoological Medicine (DACZM), with an emphasis on zoological companion animals (a.k.a. exotics). She has 20+ years of experience and has extensive experience in teaching, and training, and has lectured in many national and international events. Dr. Laila Proença® is passionate about sharing knowledge and is always excited to speak about what she loves.
Dr. Laila Proença® did her Zoological Medicine residency at the University of Georgia, where she developed a special interest for ZooMed endoscopy and minimally invasive techniques, collaborating to produce several publications including novel techniques in endosurgery. She has published many scientific articles in ZooMed and she is the co-editor of the 2015 Exotic Endoscopy issue of Veterinary Clinics of North America. Dr. Laila Proença® has been actively participating in the zoological medicine community, teaching many national and international lectures, courses, masterclasses, and wet labs, including endoscopy courses.
