February 2022 newsletter
Hi there! I’m back with some fresh news from the ZooMed world for you!
The latest issue of VCNA: Exotic Animal Practice is out, and guess what? Our dear instructor, the Queen herself (as I like to call her), Dr. Miranda Sadar is one of the co-editors! This issue is all about sedation and anesthesia of zoological companion animals (a.k.a. exotics), and covers amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals. It is a must read, and you can find all the articles here.
A very recent paper has a retrospective study of 51 cases of successful outcomes after shell fractures in fresh water turtles. Their most commonly found complications included screw hole infection, fracture necrosis, and deep screw hole penetration.
Still on the subject of very recent publications, there’s a case report of management of a neuroblastoma in an axolotl with surgery and radiotherapy! No matter the species, every animal deserves the very best treatment available! #NoSpeciesLeftBehind
Talk to you soon!
Sincerely,
Laila Proença
