June 2022 newsletter
Hi there! I am back with news from the veterinary world.
First, a paper on the analysis of the acid-base-balance status and blood gas values in rabbits with gastric stasis and gastric dilation syndrome. Their results showed that gastric stasis and dilation syndrome considerably impact on the analysis and the measurement is valuable to improve the patient’s outcome.
Second, the report of 16 cases of nonsurgical removal of urethral uroliths in female guinea pigs. The authors describe a technique using a lightweight self-retaining retractor ring with elastic stays, with only minor complications associated. The procedure is rapid, minimally invasive, technically simple, and cost effective!
Lastly, we have a paper on the comparison of IO and IV iodinated contrast administration for CT imaging in Hispaniolan Amazon parrots (Amazona ventralis). Overall, IO catheters were considered more difficult to place, but easier to manipulate for the imaging procedure once in place, and provided no complications upon removal, with minimal adverse side effects.
See you next month!
Sincerely,
Laila Proença
