October 2021 newsletter

Hi there! I’m here to bring you some news of the ZooMed world.

A new paper on gerontology of psittacines has been released by VCNA: Exotic Animal practice. Psittacines (parrots, macaws, budgerigars, parakeets, and so on) are very common patients, and can live very long lives, so thinking about how to best diagnose and manage diseases when they get older is something to learn about.

Another brand new paper is this one on the variations of mineral types of ferrets’ uroliths. The researchers compiled over 1,000 lab submission records from North America, Europe, and Asia in order to compare the minerals that naturally occur in ferrets and to identify potential risk factors associated with urolithiasis. It’s definitely worth the read!

Lastly, from earlier this year, here’s a paper on neurological examination of bearded dragons and leopard geckos. The researchers performed a standardized neurological evaluation on 30 animals from each species in order to observe which tests and parameters can be performed with minimal stress and prioritized, based on the response in healthy animals.

On VETAHEAD related news, did you know we have a shop? Besides apparel itemsmugs, and stickers, we also have gorgeous posters! Take a look at this one, for catheter placement and injection sites in rabbits:

Isn’t it awesome? Maybe it’s a little weird to be in love with the merch from my company, but I truly am.

See you next month!

Sincerely,
